The Story of this week's mix.

Over the last year there has been a lot of people in my life who've died.  And none of the circumstances surrounding any of the deaths were very good.  Cancer, murder, absolutely no fucking reason, overdose, I know you see where I am going with this.

So I decided to do a mix for one of them this week.  I just needed to put something out into the clouds of the internets so that he won't be forgotten. Partially, because I was more concerned for my other people who were dealing with it in very harsh ways.  It was like being violated for them.  Mostly, because I am still in denial of the fact he's gone.  I know it's silly, but as much as I know he's dead, he's not.  I feel like it's still some cosmic joke.  I didn't go to the vigil.  I didn't go to the second line.  I just am not ready to have him be gone.  It makes me selfish and a total bitch but I can't help it.  I just keep thinking about fun silly sad heart felt touching moments.  Yep, so this is my mix, for my friend, who I am not dealing with being dead.  Yep.  I'm an asshole.  But at least I'm being honest.

So in light of all the info I just spouted off.  This is a mix with a title.  It's called "We The People".  Enjoy.

Facebook Vs. Google+

I hate Facebook.  I have one, like almost everyone else on the planet at this point, but I fucking hate it.  I think it is the most annoying thing on the planet.  The set up is confusing and I don't want to fucking play the truth game or some other odd thing that they come up with to keep you on there for hours and hours on end.  I just want to stalk my friends, maybe chat, and give silly status updates, that usually revolve around song lyrics or movie quotes.  I don't really feel the need to play a game.  I have more fun doing nothing. So when yesterday a few friends had posted that they were giving away Google+ invites, I was all in.  Mostly, because I want nothing more than to delete my Facebook.

Why thank you for asking why I haven't just done away with it already... Mostly, because I have found some people on there that I haven't spoken to in Y E A R S and don't want them lost in the busyness of my nonexistent life again.  Also, I have to pull all my damn pictures from the site. And that takes time.

Back to the story though, I got my invite to Google+ earlier today.  So, I set up the whole thing and it took about 20 minutes.  I love it.  It's sleek and simple and beautiful and functional.  And not full of annoying things like people asking me to join the mafia or start a farm or to play the truth game.  I just want to look at shit and talk to my friends.  Needless to say, Google+ lets me do just that, points just for that.  Plus, it lets me connect twitter, lastfm, and this wonderful blog right here to the page.  Therefore, the score is currently Google+ :3  Facebook :0

See you on my next rant.

Weekly Mix Specks

My weekly mixes are just that, mixes that I make once a week.  They have a tendency to define my mood or express something.  They range from 60 to 90 minutes.  Think of it like a mix tape in digital form.  I will be posting the mixes every Saturday.

If you want a mix made for some reason or have a theme in mind or an artist you'd like to have a mix of leave me a comment and I'll work something out for you.

Mix to follow.

Hello Cruel World

Hello there and welcome to my mind.  It really isn't all that interesting.

Maybe the best way to begin is to tell you all about little old me.  Well... here goes then.
Hi!  I'm Megan Doe.  I'm 31 and there are 3 generations of Doe women living in this house, Me, my Mother, and my Grandmother.  It's kind of neat most of the time.  I get to hear all kinds of cool stories about my family and about life when my G was a kid.  It's kind of like living with a time capsule.

I'm a companion for my G.  Which means I spend all day hanging out with her and cooking and cleaning, and to be honest, I never expected to be in this situation.  I was happily living in New Orleans.  But G is old and she needs someone with her.  So I came back to the south suburbs of Chicago.  I'm adjusting.  It's just taking time.

Enough of all that mess.  More about Me.  I guess I can part with some random facts.

I write, but I am not so vain to attempt to claim I am a writer.  I love words and language, but I haven't finished anything that would make me a writer.  A poet though, I will make that claim.  I can finish poetry, and letters,  man do I love letter writing.  I don't send them very often, but I do write them, mostly because it's easier than just spouting off bullshit in an email.  More personal and more real.

I love music.  I mean it, I really really love music.  Tom Waits is a genius. He's one of my favourites, and usually doesn't leave my play lists.  Every week when I sit down and make my week of music list, there is always a Waits track.  And I do, make a play list every week.  I used to make a mix tape, but alas, I can't find tapes and I don't have a cassette player any more.

I love Poetry and Comic books.  I have a love/hate relationship with social networking.  I love diners, you know the weird ones that are in the middle of nowhere but have the best food ever.  I want to go to as many odd roadside attractions as possible.  I believe in voodoo, so much so that I actually practice.  I love churches, the ritual and the beauty that they house, the faith in that kind of idea is what doesn't work for me.

I can do things like read tarot cards, cleanse the energy of a house, build an altar, make a damn good pot of coffee, drink whiskey like it's water, smoke like a 1930's starlet,  and smile like I mean it.

I like pop culture, I am kind of a geek.  I don't mind it.  I will probably talk at length at some point about all the shit I like as far as that whole thing goes, at some point.  But for right now, I'm just trying to let you get a feel for who you will be reading.
